Manchester United legend and former Captain Roy Keane primed for a coaching role at Old Trafford.

Thursday, April 24, 2014 – Manchester United legend, Roy Keane, has reportedly emerged as a top candidate to be the Red Devils’ new assistant manager.

United are in the process of recruiting new staff following the sacking of David Moyes on Tuesday, and are believed to be keen to bring on board former players in the new set-up.

Keane, who spent 12 years as a player at Old Trafford is currently working as an assistant coach to Republic of Ireland manager, Martin O’Neill.

Dutch tactician, Louis van Gaal, who has emerged as the front runner for the Old Trafford hot-seat would also like to have the former tough tackling midfielder as his assistant, according to reports.

Keane, who is known for his outspoken nature claimed that Manchester United players, should be ashamed of themselves following the sacking of David Moyes.

Speaking to ITV, Keane said: “I think it’s a shame, he should have been given more time. Some United players should be ashamed of themselves – they really let him down.”

United are currently under the care of veteran midfielder, Ryan Giggs and his former teammates, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes.
